Music Notation is a visual language consisting
of codes and symbols, used by composers to write down musical compositions.
This allows music to be analyzed, preserved or performed.
The process of composing and the act of writing
work in a paradoxical way: composing means a free creative process, but when it
comes to writing - a whole range of limitations apply because the range of
codes and symbols are limited. So, it could be argued, instead of fascilitating
musical composition, the act of
notation limits it.
This project proposes a new Musical Notation
system which both facilitates the performer and generates the foundation for
the composition itself.
By scanning physical objects and assigning the
data to musical properties - the physical object becomes the score. Hence,
making Music Notation a much more sensitive tool that offers different ways of
creativity.
