The emotional wounds and suffering of women are
ignored in a male-dominated world and suicide is extremity of emotional wounds.
The fact is little awareness of this phenomenon makes it all the more important
to address it. Suicide is taboo, but a way to express oneself.
Birth is controlled by your parents and death is
controlled by nature. Suicide is a direct way for a person to take control of
their own destiny. However, this is a paradox that the only action that a
suicidal person can take to gain control over in their life is the very action
that will end that life.
An important creative choice for me was
semitransparent silk, which allows me to create two layers to my paintings and
means the works can be seen from both sides. Silk is a thin, soft and elegant
material, which is widely used in fashion and can be regarded as a symbol of
women and femininity. The character of silk reflects my true feelings about
women: you cannot always see the pain of an experience on the outside of a
woman. You must look inside.
The woman who is suffering may use some
‘fake words’ to cover their true stories and emotions, and I use
masks to symbolize this hidden side. Butterflies are the symbol of rebirth. I
use blood in an obscure way to show that the wounds are also in their heart.
