Value Lost: The discounting process of commodity
in contemporary culture
The economic crisis has led me to wonder how
much is a person worth? Not only have people lost money and jobs because of the
credit crunch crisis, mostly literally lost their homes and their lives have
been ruined.
This made me think that people DO have a price.
Are human beings now evaluated by how much money they own? How much can a
person earn? Do people have to walk now with tags on their backs or shoulders
indicating that they are worth something? Are people now considered to be a
product that is not worth to invest in? Is this crisis going to reshape
society? People are separating themselves from others becoming selfish in order
to rescue themselves regardless of the harm they impose on others? What is the
role the media play in giving people the stamp of a PRODUCT such as a cow or a
camel? I feel that nowadays society has lost its trust in humankind and
becoming dehumanized.
My artwork gives voice of what is happening in
all over the world. It deals with psychological and spiritual issues that beset
people today. Because people are disconnected from God, we can see a great deal
of depression, anxiety, phobia, and violence in societies. I am not trying to
find solutions through my artwork; I am merely attempting to show the audience
what I feel is the reality and I do that by applying different methods of
artwork.
My artwork is an elect of conceptual
contemporary reflections of my feelings and emotions. My inspiration comes from
different cultures and my thought analysis is addressed to the public, which is
an important element of communication, as well as a part of the environment we
live in. Analyzing my thoughts brought out through my creativity using
different techniques and styles.
I try creating some sort of connection between
the loss value of humanity and the usage of plastic bag, so my recent work had
gone through several stages.
My inspiration came from my surrounding while I
was taken photos of everyday life outside, reading newspapers flashing daily
tragedies about companies, bankrupts or closing, of branches to reduce losses.
Also, I watched the daily news, which showed the impact of economic crisis and
the recession on the human life.
I can see around me a lot of people-that their
standard of living dropped sharply, lost their homes, jobs, savings whilst
confronting a high level of uncertainty. As result of indisposing people now
are being considered to be product, commodity (cheap commodity).
My project artwork is a link between the
realities of everyday life and the plastic bags. We use plastic bag in our
lives to buy the consumer goods. Showing this similarities between the human
nature and daily life struggles which brought up the feeling of isolation
because of the loss of human value. To compare the plastic bag which is used
daily and is priceless product especially since it’s a manufactured
product. This is somehow a challenge to show the subject matter as an abstract
art form, with purpose of directly affecting the viewer.
